Warner Bros. UK at ComicCon

31 Jul 2014

A big thank you to everyone who was following our #WBComicCon hashtag over the weekend, and everyone who was talking to us, commenting, retweeting, liking and sharing our updates. Here, as promised is our overview of ComicCon 2014!

Warner Bros. kicked off their big Hall H panel with the hugely anticipated DC film Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, with director Zack Snyder bringing out cast members Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and  Batman himself: Ben Affleck.

The first big reveal of the panel was the dramatic image of Gal Gadot's new thigh-high booted Wonderwoman next to a violent volcano, a departure far from earlier iterations of the superhero, demonstrating Snyder's darker take on the DC Universe. Gadot - known for playing Gisele Harabo in The Fast and the Furious films - is embarking on her biggest role to date.

The second big piece to come from the panel has been termed "The most exciting clip we are not allowed to show you" -  and was, of course, the first teaser for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, showing a White Eyed Batman using the Bat-signal to illuminate a red-eyed Superman, at which point both heroes stare one another down with glowing eyes. But you're going to have to wait to see that officially.

The cast includes Amy Adams (American Hustle) as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) as arch-nemesis Lex Luthor,
Jeremy Irons as the faithful Alfred, and Laurence Fishburne starring as Daily Planet editor Perry White.

Batman's home town is in a bad place when we find it at the start of Gotham, and a new trailer released during Comic-Con shows just how much its villainous inhabitants will have going on in its first series, including the back stories of many of DCs most loved (feared?) villains.

Other Batman news included the Batman: Arkham Knight Cape / Cowl / Create exhibition, hosted at the Hard Rock Hotel and featuring designs from Zack Snyder, Will Arnett, Jeff Lemire and many more. A dedicated press hour was followed by a drinks reception. Rocksteady were also in attendance for press interviews.

ComicCon was buzzing all weekend with talk of the new Mad Max film. First we dropped the stunning ComicCon poster and swiftly followed by the dramatic and visually arresting new trailer – showing Charlize Theron's bald head and the ever popular Tom Hardy as Mad Max. The thrilling chase sequence depicted in the trailer, along with the costume and scenery was the talk of the conference.

As if Matthew McConaughey's surprise entrance in Hall H wasn't enough, one of ComicCon's bucket lists wishes was fulfilled as Christopher Nolan himself made his first ever appearance at the conference to discuss his upcoming film, Interstellar.

"We thought it'd be fun to see what all the fuss is about," said Nolan, nonchalantly.

After directing The Dark Knight Trilogy, Nolan is considered by many to be something of a legend - to say nothing of his work on Inception. Nolan hopes Interstellar will be his grandest movie to date, and when this statement comes from the man responsible for Inception and The Dark Knight, this is making us very excited indeed!

Sunday night saw a reveal of the teaser trailer and special competition announced by Peter Jackson, quickly followed up with the official poster and first trailer for the much anticipated movie The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - have a watch below!
