10 movies we can’t wait to watch in 2018

2018 is looking like a packed year filled with BIG movies. Among the selection is DC’s newest hero, Steven Spielberg’s futuristic drama and Lady Gaga’s breakout role. In order of release date, here is a taster of what’s to come with some of our 2018 movie releases… 

TITLE: Tomb Raider

DIRECTOR: Roar Uthaug

CAST: Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins

RELEASE DATE: 16 March 2018

Lara Croft is back on the big screen in this spin-off from action video game series Tomb Raider. Played by Alicia Vikander (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Lara leaves everything she knows to track down the last known whereabouts of her father (Dominic West) in a bid to uncover the truth about his mysterious death.

TITLE: Ready Player One

DIRECTOR: Steven Spielberg

CAST: Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance, Olivia Cooke

RELEASE DATE: 30 March 2018

Set in 2045, the world is on the brink of chaos and collapse. People have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by James Halliday (Mark Rylance).  When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg, hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world.  


TITLE: Rampage

DIRECTOR: Brad Peyton

CAST: Dwayne Johnson, Naomi Harris, Malin Akerman

RELEASE DATE: 13 April 2017

Dwayne Johnson (San Andreas) stars as Primatologist Davis Okoye in this thrilling action-adventure film. Okoye’s beloved silverback gorilla gets transformed into a raging creature of enormous size, due to a genetic experiment gone awry. Across North America an epidemic of alpha predators has been created, and it’s up to Okoye to find the antidote before it’s too late…

TITLE: Game Night

DIRECTOR: John Francis Daley and Johnathan Goldstein

CAST: Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Billy Magnussen

RELEASE DATE: 2 March 2018

You’ll never think of your friend’s game nights the same way again. Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses) and Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes) team up in this action-packed comedy, where a weekly couples’ game night turns into the ultimate murder mystery. Complete with kidnappings, thugs and federal agents, the game soon blurs the line between fiction and reality.

RELEASE DATE: 5 October 2018

Starring and directed by Bradley Cooper (American Sniper), this reimagining of the musical “A Star is Born,” introduces Stefani Germanotta, known across the globe as Oscar-nominated music superstar Lady Gaga, in her first leading role in a major motion picture. Cooper plays Jackson Maine, a country music star who is on the brink of decline when he discovers a talented unknown named Ally (Germanotta). As the two begin a passionate love affair, Jack coaxes Ally into the spotlight, catapulting her to stardom. But as Ally’s career quickly eclipses his own, Jack finds it increasingly hard to handle his fading glory.

TITLE: Ocean’s 8


CAST: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter

RELEASE DATE: 22 June 2018

Next year sees the release of the first Ocean franchise film staring an all-female cast. Touted as a sequel of the original series, Ocean’s 8 follows Danny Ocean’s estranged sister Debbie (Bullock) as she plans to pull off an enormous heist at New York City’s annual Met Gala. She’ll need to find the perfect female crew for the job, and we have a feeling she’ll more than manage.

TITLE: The Meg

DIRECTOR: Jon Turteltaub

CAST: Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose

RELEASE DATE: 10 August 2018

The Meg revolves around one of the world’s most fearsome creatures, the shark. We’re not talking about just any shark though, this is a Megalodon; a 70-foot creature that swam in our oceans millions years ago. Deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) is called in to save a stranded submarine, but the mission ends up being much, much bigger…

TITLE: Smallfoot

DIRECTOR: Karey Kirkpatrick

CAST: Channing Tatum, LeBron James, Zendaya, James Corden

RELEASE DATE: 5 October 2018

An animated adventure for all ages, Smallfoot turns the Bigfoot legend upside down when a bright young Yeti finds something he thought didn’t exist—a human. News of this “smallfoot” brings him fame and a chance with the girl of his dreams. It also throws the simple Yeti community into an uproar over what else might be out there in the big world beyond their snowy village, in a rollicking story about friendship, courage and the joy of discovery. 

TITLE: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

DIRECTOR: David Yates

CAST: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Johnny Depp, Jude Law

RELEASE DATE: 16 November 2018

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne).  But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

TITLE: Aquaman


CAST: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson

RELEASE DATE: December 21, 2018

The highly anticipated sixth instalment of the DC Extended Universe is almost upon us. Aquaman is the character’s third live-action film, but the first with him taking on a leading role. Jason Momoa (Justice League) stars as Arthur Curry, the reluctant ruler of the underwater kingdom Atlantic who must learn how to both lead his people and keep the peace between land dwellers and his citizens.
