The native peoples of North America gave us the tradition of the
dreamcatcher, a hoop of twigs woven with an intricate web of sinew. It is
believed that good dreams, floating in the night air, pass through the
hanging web and flow down the dangling feathers to the sleeper below. But
nightmares are caught in the web and held until they perish in the first
light of day.
